Terms of Use and Sale
Last updated 19 October 2026.
These terms
These terms apply when you use eBookYou (ebookyou.com) and when you buy, read or publish eBooks here. By using the site you agree to them, together with our Privacy notice and Refund policy. We may update them from time to time; the date above shows the latest version, and changes never apply to a purchase you have already made.
Who you are dealing with
eBookYou is run by PRIMEBEREADY LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14642178), based in South London. TECOR Comics is the comics imprint of eBookYou and part of the same service: these terms cover it too. You can contact us through the feedback form. You pay by bank: you approve the payment in your own banking app, and it is processed by GoCardless Ltd, which passes it to us (PRIMEBEREADY LTD); your bank statement is your record of it. Prices are in pounds sterling and include any VAT due.
What you are buying
eBookYou sells eBooks and digital comics only. Nothing is printed or posted: there is no paper copy, and no delivery charge. What you buy is:
Access to read and listen to the eBook on eBookYou, for your personal use, in any web browser and on any of your devices, for as long as the site operates. eBooks are read on the site, not downloaded: there is no file to download. You may not copy, redistribute or resell the text, and every chapter carries a reference to your order.
The narration is computer-generated — a studio text-to-speech voice, or your device's own voice.
Access
You can start reading the moment your payment is confirmed (for a bank payment usually within a minute): the eBook opens from your order page (bookmark it — its address is your receipt) and from My library when you are signed in.
If eBookYou ever closes. Your access lasts for as long as the site operates, and we cannot honestly promise longer than that: your eBooks are read here, on our server, not kept on your own device. So if we ever decide to stop trading, we will email everyone who has bought an eBook at least 90 days before the site closes, and for that whole period you will be able to download your own eBooks and keep them. If we were ever forced to close without warning — insolvency, or a court order — we might not be able to do that, and we would rather tell you so here than promise you something we might not be able to deliver.
Your account
Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done through your account. One account per person. We may suspend or close an account that is used to abuse the site, other readers, authors or our refund policy.
When you make an account we show you your eBookYou identification number (it looks like EYB-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) once. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. Every time you sign in we ask for your password and 4 characters of this number, chosen at random, and the whole number lets you set a new password if you forget yours - so treat it like a password, and never share it. We keep only a scrambled (hashed) copy, so we cannot tell you what it was; you can make a new one from your dashboard, which cancels the old one. Using it signs your account out everywhere.
When you sign in you choose how long to stay signed in on that device: until you close the browser, 24 hours, 72 hours, 7 days, or until you sign out. Choose a short time on a shared or public device. Signing out ends every session on every device.
Signing in with Google. You can sign in or create your account with your Google account instead of typing a password. Google confirms who you are and tells us your name, your email address (which Google has verified) and a permanent Google account number; we use them only to sign you in. If an eBookYou account already uses that email address, signing in with Google opens that account. Google only replaces the password: we still ask for 4 characters of your identification number, exactly as above. An account created with Google has no eBookYou password - if you want one, use "Forgotten your password?" with your identification number. Your Google account is governed by Google's own terms.
eBooks published by independent authors
Many eBooks here are published by their authors through EYDP. Each author confirms they hold the rights to what they publish and is responsible for its content. We review eBooks before they go on sale and may remove any eBook that breaks these terms or the law. If you think an eBook infringes your rights, tell us through the feedback form and we will look into it promptly.
If an eBook is withdrawn, you keep what you bought. An author can take an eBook off sale at any time, and we sometimes remove one ourselves. Either way it only stops being sold: if you have already bought it, it stays in My library and you can go on reading and listening to it. There is one exception. If we have to remove an eBook because it is unlawful, or because it infringes someone else's rights, we may have to take it out of your library too — and if we ever do that we will refund you in full, however long ago you bought it.
Identity check for publishers
Before your first eBook or comic goes on sale we check who you are, once: a short camera recording in which you follow on-screen head movements while a one-time code is shown, and a photo of your passport or national identity card. Most checks are decided automatically in a minute or two; anything the automatic check is unsure about is looked at by a person. You may be asked to do it again if your details change or we have reason to doubt a check. We may refuse, suspend or withdraw publishing if a check fails, if a document appears not to be genuine or not to be yours, or if you do not complete it. How we store and delete the recording and document is set out in our privacy notice.
If you publish with us (EYDP)
These points apply when you publish an eBook or comic through EYDP, eBookYou Direct Publishing. They follow our standard Author Publishing Agreement; if you have signed a separate agreement with us for an eBook, that agreement takes priority for it.
- You keep your copyright. You give us a licence to publish, sell and let readers read your eBook on eBookYou, worldwide, for as long as it is published here — and to use your title, cover, author name and extracts of up to 8% of the eBook (the free sample) to show and promote it. When your eBook is withdrawn that licence ends, with one narrow exception: it carries on, for the readers who had already bought it and for nobody else, so that they can go on reading the copy they paid for. That is the promise we make to them under What you are buying, and we cannot keep it without this. Every right you do not give us, including film, television, stage, translation, print and other audio rights, stays with you.
- Royalties: 70% of Net Receipts on every sale, in every country. Net Receipts are the money we actually receive for your eBook, less only VAT and other sales taxes, the payment provider's fees, and refunds and chargebacks. No royalty is due on free samples. A refunded sale is taken off your royalties in the period of the refund.
- Statements and payment. We account in six-month periods ending 30 June and 31 December, and send your statement and payment within 60 days after each period ends, to the payout details in your publisher settings. A balance under £25 may be carried forward, but any balance is paid at least once a year. You can follow your sales and royalties at any time on your EYDP dashboard.
- Tax. You are responsible for your own income tax and National Insurance on royalties. If we are legally required to deduct tax from a payment, we will, and will give you evidence of it.
- Your promises. When you submit an eBook you confirm — and we record the time and your address — that it is your own work or you are authorised to publish it; that you hold the rights for every country where it is sold; that it does not infringe anyone's copyright, trade mark, privacy or other rights, and is not defamatory or otherwise unlawful; that you have permission for any third-party material in it; and that you have told us whether and how AI tools were used. You will cover our reasonable losses and costs if any of these promises turns out to be untrue.
- Our promises. Every eBook goes through our automated review (and a person, for anything it flags) before it goes on sale, and we aim to publish it within 72 hours of submission; we may still remove an eBook later if it breaks these terms. We keep accurate records of sales and receipts, account to you honestly and on time, and credit you as the author under the name you choose. Every approved eBook receives a permanent EYSIN.
- Moral rights. You keep your right to be identified as the author, and to object to derogatory treatment of your work, under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
- Leaving. You can withdraw an eBook from sale at any time from your dashboard; it leaves the shop, its EYSIN stays on the public register, and royalties earned up to then are still paid. Readers who have already bought it keep access to it. We may remove an eBook, or end our arrangement with you, if you seriously break these terms or the law.
- Tax. You are responsible for the tax on your royalties where you are tax-resident, and we don't give tax advice. If you live in the United States, your royalties are US income: you report them to the IRS and your state and pay any US tax due. Once you sign our short US tax declaration we pay your royalties in full, without deducting UK tax, under Article 12 of the UK–US Double Taxation Convention; you can't submit eBooks until it is signed, and you must tell us if you stop being US-resident. If you live outside the UK and the US, UK law may require us to deduct UK tax from royalties unless a tax treaty says otherwise — we will tell you before any deduction.
- Your details. We use your name, contact and payment details only to publish your eBook, pay you and meet our legal obligations, as our Privacy notice explains.
Ratings and reviews
Anyone with an account can rate an eBook and write a review, once per eBook, and change or delete it later. Reviews must be your own honest opinion of the eBook. We don't pay for reviews, we don't let publishers or authors review their own eBooks (or anyone else's on their behalf), and we never remove a review just because it is negative. A review is marked Verified purchase when the reviewer bought the eBook here.
Please don't post spoilers without a warning, personal information, links, adverts, hateful or abusive content, or anything you don't have the right to share. Readers can report a review; a review reported by several readers is hidden until we have looked at it, and we remove reviews that break these rules or the law. Your review is shown with your first name and initial, and we may show it (with its star rating) to search engines.
Non-fiction is information, not advice
Some eBooks cover subjects such as poker, trading, health or money. They are general information and education, not financial, gambling, medical, legal or other professional advice, and they may not reflect the latest research or rules. Check anything important with a qualified professional or an up-to-date official source before you rely on it. Gambling and trading carry real risk, including losing money; gambling is for over-18s only. If gambling stops being fun, free confidential help is available from GamCare (0808 8020 133) and BeGambleAware.org.
AI disclosure
Some eBooks offered here were produced with substantial AI assistance; this is shown on the eBook where it applies, so that you know what you are buying.
Your legal rights, and our liability
Nothing in these terms takes away your rights as a consumer under UK law, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if digital content is faulty or not as described. Nothing limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
Apart from that, and as far as the law allows, the site is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available but cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for loss that was not foreseeable, for business losses, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control.
Links to other sites
Links to other websites are there for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, and their own terms apply when you use them. You are welcome to link to any public page of eBookYou.
Names and marks
eBookYou, EYDP (eBookYou Direct Publishing) and EYSIN (eBookYou Standard Item Number) are our names and marks. eBooks and covers belong to their authors and publishers.
